“ I typically order my burgers medium well so when they said they ground their own hamburger and add pork and it comes medium rare I was a bit apprehensive; however my worries were soon put to rest as this burger was amazing! I had the bbq burger with their homemade fries. Could only eat half because it was so big. Went on a Saturday for lunch and there wasn't anyone really there. The waitress was so sweet and nice but service was slow. Food was worth the wait overall..and when the staff is friendly you tend to accept the slowness :) ”

“ This review is only for the pizza, which we carried out and ate in our hotel room at Ameristar to start a long night of gambling in Blackhawk. The pizza was better than I would have expected; all five of the guys I was with really liked everything about it. It is a little pricey for pizza, as two large pies with a total of two toppings was $33, but was very filling and very good in every way. I just ran in to pick up the pizza, but the place does have a cool vibe and decor, though it was kind of dead when I walked in. ”

The food is excellent, fresh, priced fairly, and presented in a very visually-pleasing manner.We literally refuse to eat anywhere else in the area now that we've discovered this great spot. We're relatively frequent visitors to BH/CC (3-5 times per year), and we stumbled across this hidden gem one trip earlier in 2010. We were sick of the either horribly overpriced or DISGUSTING dining options in BH/CC (we're not picky high rollers, trust me), and also the options that are horribly overpriced AND disgusting (Ameristar buffet and deli, I'm looking in your direction!), so we did an online search on our laptop at the hotel, trying "best place to eat in BH" in desperation. Thanks to UrbanSpoon/Yelp, we decided this place was worth a try. We now consider this our ONLY lunch/dinner option in the entire area, and the staff, ambiance, location, and rich historical surroundings are just as exemplary as the food. With rooftop AND street-level patios, it's a delightful warm-weather "libation and snack" spot as well. We just can't say enough nice things about it! We hope this place is around FOREVER! OH, and a tip--they deliver pizzas and HOUSE-MADE fresh ice creams to any of the local hotels! How awesome is that? :) PLEASE try this place if you never have before...it's somewhat hidden, just up the hill from Fitzgerald's, in a stand-alone building. You can take the tram there! ”

“ Crooks' Palace?! How can you people review this place and not talk about how genuine this place is? This is the real deal - over 100 years old, and genuine to the town of Black Hawk... the real old time saloon from whorin' days gone by! Don't believe me? Check out the wall paper next time you're in the place. Sure, those may look like innocent grapevines, intertwined along the top of the wall, but look a little closer, and... Oh my goodness! WHAT are those grape vines doing?! Ah those Victorians! The sneaky bastids! ;) ”

“ Wow! I absolutely love this place. I've been looking for a Monte Cristo High and low. I finally found one. Had to come to Blackhawk to find it. Staff was friendly even as we showed up 15 minutes before closing. ”

“ crook's has really good food! i was more than happy to go to an actual restaurant while in black hawk. i'm not a big fan of casino food, so this was a pleasant surprise. they have a fairly traditional menu, burgers, pizza, and whatnot. i wanted to try a few other things that they had on their menu for sure. i ended up ordering their slopper. for those of you who don't know what a slopper is, it's a burger smothered in green chile. can't go wrong there, in my book anyway. i also tried their homemade ice cream sampler, which was amazing. several homemade ice creams to choose from. i had mint chocolate chip, peanut butter chocolate swirl, and the raspberry ghost (ridiculousness). the service was great, everyone was super friendly. they have a full bar as well. not too expensive either! i would recommend crook's to any other hardworking citizen that happens to be pissing some money away in black hawk. after the beating i just took, a nice sit-down meal really hit the spot... ”
